Baseball Season Officially Opens!

Yesterday marked the day when the schools could officially start their baseball season. For some reason, and I'm not sure it's a good one, the TSSAA rules will not allow school coaches work with students until the second week of February. The reason I have heard is that they don't want school sports programs to have an advantage over other schools. The rule doesn't seem to help out the schools. It's obvious that some schools ignore the rules and build such reputations that parents and students find a way out of their community to go to those schools that have strong programs.

My son's school is one of the largest schools in metro, yet, because the old baseball coach didn't take his job seriously, there are few real ball players that attend this school. Thankfully, a new coach has been hired and I hope that he will be able to rebuild the program so that the parents and kids will have a good reason to stay involved with this school.

We had a few high schools attend our facility for the past two months getting ready for the new season. Instead of "school coaches" working with the students, parents who are involved with their kids and who are capable of coaching were involved. It shows how committed these schools are to continue having a great program. If only more parents were involved with their kids...not just in baseball, but in their schools. It's obvious that when parents are involved, the kids desire to succeed and it shows. Anyway...here's to a new season! I just hope I can get away from the store to watch my son play in his last season of high school ball.

Is his high school that big one out on Hwy 100? I drove past it after we left Cancun and realized I'd never seen it before. Actually I realized I'd never seen several things out that road before! I went through this one intersection I didn't remember--stores on both sides--and thought, 'Where the heck am I?'

Hope you have a great season!

That's the new Ensworth High School. It's a private school. Thankfully, those guys come to NBTA alot! Yes, Hwy 100 is becoming the new shopping area for Bellevue. I'm thinking about moving my store in the new Publix shopping center so I would be across the street from the new YMCA and of course, a Starbucks!

What an excellent location that would be for you! Starbucks within walking distance. . . .
