Friday night was opening night for the The Nashville Braves. Of course, we had to be there to watch Tom play his first game of the season with this summer team. The tournament is in the middle of nowhere, somewhere down a long dirt road around Columbia, TN. Fairly nice looking field, but the dirt was like playing on cement! Infact, cement would have been a little softer on the body! The grass had so many pit holes in that outfield that when balls were hit out there, they would bounce once and then shoot off at 45 degree angles. Quite annoying for the fielders!
Anyway, Tom led off for the team in the first inning and hit a hard one bouncer to the shortstop who couldn't handle the hit. From there he was able to make the first of 24 runs that crossed the plate in the 5 innings they played. Sadly, the ending score was 24 to 4. But they won and it's great to see Tom playing with a team that is full of great players. It will be fun to watch this summer! He's also the starting 2nd baseman...which will be a nail-biting summer for me since Tom has never really played infield. But I'm glad they put him there and I know he will learn so much from these guys. Some of the players play with D1 schools, as well as D2 & D3. This will really help Tom as he heads to college this fall. We're thankful for the opportunity this will give him. So now...summers here and baseball will interrupt our house once again! (like it hasn't already!)

I hope all--Tom, Becky and Mark--have a wonderful season this summer. And a wonderful summer together before Tom heads off to Chattanooga.
