Minor Miracle

The miracle? The past 2 Sundays Becky and I dug up bushes that have been dead for years, planted a crape myrtle tree (bush?!), built a wall and planted some other type of plants (I have no idea what they are!) and didn't die from a heart attack or heat stroke!

We have wasted years wondering what to do with our front lawn. The reason is that our lawn is clay and rock...and only God knows how anything lives in land like this. It took me literally 4 hours of hard digging to make a hole big enough for the crape myrtle to be planted! I had to break through serious rock to make it happen. The other three holes in the front of our house only took an hour...but the middle hole was stopped by a huge root or rock that could not be moved...so, I built a wall and added a ton of good soil and planted the plant hoping that it will still take root in the old soil.

Just to let you know...everything we plant dies! But at least for now, our front area looks a little bit better than it did. We still have a lot to do to make our neighbors happy about living on our street. Yes...we are the eye sore of the neighborhood.

Wow, that sure sounds like a job that would work up a thirst! I hope you had a few cool beers to help you recover.
The finished project looks great. I have a similar project to do but I am waiting until the weather cools down.

Dang! I hope it holds up until I get a chance to see it.

I'm sure you'll get to see it Michael...it may be dead by then but I assume we'll do what we did with the last dead bushes...leave them there for a few years to enjoy what they use to be!!!

Yes Dennis. Priority one. Make sure there is enough cold beer before we start digging!

Not too shabby, I like the wall that was an ingenious idea considering the ground you have to work with. Maybe more brick walls around the yard in the future rather than digging for so many hours. Just an idea for when the new plants die out on you. :o)
