Vanderbilt ER Update...

After my first experience 12 days ago, I had gone to my urologist this past Monday. They did an x-ray and talked to me quite a bit. The doctor told me that after looking at the film she decided it had probably passed without me knowing it. I was pretty sure that hadn't happened but she insisted that you couldn't see the stone. So off I went to work and really was pleased to be thinking she may be right.

Becky took off last Sunday on a camping trip and didn't come home until last night. She missed all the excitement...Thursday night, around midnight I started having pain in my kidney again. I'm here alone and thinking that this is probably not a good thing. I called my son who was out for the night and asked him to come home just in case I might need him. He did come and I was thankful for that.

So...the pain started to get bad quickly. I started all the meds they gave me and an hour later the pain was worse. I fought through the night thinking this stone is moving since I'm in so much pain...and it can't be much longer for it to finally get through to the bladder. Well...around 5:30 in the morning with absolutely no sleep I woke my son up and we took off to the Vanderbilt ER.

Got there and they got me to a room pretty fast. Someone walked me in and said someone would be with me soon. After 10 minutes or so, I was still standing in the room not knowing what to do. Last time a nurse came in and made me get into a gown, lay down, and then she got an IV started before the doc showed. Anyway...I finally just laid on the bed and all of a sudden my first doctor from my last ER visit walks into the room. She said she saw my name come up and though she was off duty she had to come see what was going on! She was great on my first visit and then proceeded to get the staff working on me. That was too nice.

To try and speed this thing up...it took another 2 hours before they got my pain under control! It was horrible. When it finally stopped they told me I needed to go home! After a short talk with the new doc I left around 11:30.

Later in the day, which was just yesterday, my urologist called and said she guessed they didn't see the stone! You think??!! Anyway, looks like if I don't pass this thing by Monday, I will probably set up a time for them to go in and blast this stone into sand. I don't really want to do that but I certainly don't want that pain back again. I can't tell you how painful it is...

So we'll see what happens next. I'm praying for a couple of good days before we go blast this thing out...or better yet, I'm praying for this thing to just pass on through so I can get on with life and not worry about it!

Hi Mark,
I am sorry to hear that you are having so much pain and suffering from the "unseen" stone. I will be watching for the next posting and hoping to read some good news.

Mark, I hope and will pray that this stone will pass quickly however I feel it does need to be blasted out of there. I hope this time they will analyze the contents so you will know what foods to omit in your diet.
