Dan Fogelberg

Sunday, December 16

Dear friends,

Dan left us this morning at 6:00am . He fought a brave battle with cancer and died peacefully at home in Maine with his wife Jean at his side. His strength, dignity, and grace in the face of the daunting challenges of this disease were an inspiration to all who knew him. http://danfogelberg.com/news.html

I was getting ready for bed when I heard the news last night. Dan Fogelberg was one of my favorite artists of all time. When I was in high school, I was playing a solo gig at a local bar. Someone came up to me and said, "you sound like this new guy I just heard on the radio, Dan Fogelberg." Needless to say, I went out the next day to find his record and to hear what this guy sounded like. About the only similarity was...I had a fairly high voice at the time! Dan was a real singer songwriter and a great guitar player. A few weeks later I heard Dan was going to show up at a local club to play guitar with the house band. I somehow sneaked in and watched this amazing guitar player. From that time on I followed his career...and what an amazing career he had.

I also heard a few years ago, Dan gave his life to the Lord. That was a prayer that I prayed many times for him. I thank God for His mercy, grace , and love! Though it's sad to see someone so young be taken from us, I know God has His purpose and plan for all of our lives.

Here's to the "Leader of the Band" Dan Fogelberg.

Hi Mark,
It is always sad when a great artist leaves our world. Now, how are you doing. I was sorry to hear that you have some medical problems and I will pray that you will soon be well. At the 4 o'clock meeting today we said a silent pray for both Matt and you. It was a great time. I hope you can be a part of the group sometime in 2008. If you can come some second Tuesday I will be sure to bring the camera.
