Mom was the ultimate mom. She kept our family on track and made sure her family was taken care of through some of the hardest times anyone had to go through. When mom and dad left on a ship in 1953 headed to Korea, she was 3o years old and had 4 kids already. Through rough seas and landing in the middle of a wickedly cold winter in a war torn country, mom raised 3 more kids and thousands more who had lost their families due to war.
Thirty three years later and due to her health, mom and dad settled in an apartment in Sierra Madre, California to be close to some of her kids and grandchildren and be near doctors who could help her. She had become diabetic and had heart problems. She had survived one quadruple by-pass but in the end and during another by-pass, she left us on December 14, 1988.
I know all of us think we have had the greatest moms in the world! But just to let you know...my mom really was the greatest!
Happy Birthday Mom!

I also find it difficult to believe that it's been 20 years. My only recollection of the time in particular was that the Cody band played a gig at the Cockeyed Camel while you were in California for the funeral. I remember being on stage and feeling like half of me was missing. I'm sure Gene, Steve and the bass player (Danny or Mark?) felt much the same.
Sorry I missed the gig...my mom probably wouldn't have minded if I had stayed to play! She seemed to be real proud that we played music and was so proud that you and I had that cut on Glen Campbell's record. She told everyone she met about that song. Strange how that record came out a few months before she died and the chorus was..."In my life what would I do without you?"
I wish it could've been a hit for her, but maybe what it was was enough.
Two things off topic: 1) I'm coming to Murfreesboro tomorrow with a group of honors students, but I probably won't be able to see you before we leave on Saturday; 2) tell me again the name of the ASCAP guy you said I should contact about "Christmas Time."
a wonderful tribute Mark..I can tell you loved your parents very much, and I think they would be very proud of you today!!! I know I am, you are changing peoples lives, mine included to a more fulfilling and happier life.
I'll second all your statements about what a great mom she was. You are absolutely correct on that. She was a great woman.
