Tommy Emmanuel

About a month ago, my wife called me at work and told me to write on my calendar that she was going to take me out on July 31st. She wouldn't tell me where we were going...

My love for music, or should I say, my lack of love for music after being in the business for so long, I was a bit surprised that after her taking me out to dinner we headed downtown to the Polk Theater to see Tommy Emmanuel.

Hate to admit it, but I really knew nothing about Tommy Emmanuel. I remember Becky telling me about 10 years ago after she and my son Tom saw this amazing guitarist perform at the Garrison Keller show that they had gone to. She said that one day I would have to see this guy...Well, now I have.

I have performed and played with some of the most amazing guitarists. Each of them anointed by God. Each having their own style. I prayed for years that God would allow me to be one...but He had a different plan for me.

Tommy Emmanuel simply blew my socks off. One man, one guitar, with 10 fingers that did some of the most amazing movements I have ever witnessed. The most amazing thing was that after he had played for over 2 hours, I was still ready to hear more! For those of you who know me well...you know that's amazing! I get bored with music so quickly these days. In fact, I never listen to the radio and rarely put on a CD unless I'm really down and need to hear from a few masters of communication to sooth my soul for a moment.

I hope you have the chance to see Tommy Emmanuel play. I don't care how young or how old you are...you will be blessed by the talent God has given him. Got this off YouTube...sound is not too good, but you'll get the idea! The sound last night was amazing.

He is truly awesome, can't even imagine fingers moving that fast. So glad you enjoyed it Mark, but so sad to hear of your lack of love for music now.

For me, it is what gives me peace, and I been needing that a lot lately.

That's great John! I'm sure the album is great...but, I do hope you get to see him live someday and experience the music in person. It truly is moving.

I was also at the Nashville concert. Oh my! Words cannot adequately describe his gift. But it was more than an awesome performance. You felt like you were in his living room just "hanging out". He is a genuine performer, though I don't think he realizes it. I can't wait to attend another concert.

Well Paulette...looks like we may get to hear him again since he has made his home here in the Nashville area! I would imagine he could show up in a lot of venues around town. Let's hope so.
