Today my wife and I got up and headed straight to Panera Bread for a toasted cinnamon bagel to take with us to Starbucks. After a nice morning of reading the paper and talking a bit we got a call from Tom telling us that he would be working out with the Temple Baseball Team at one...so we headed to a huge mall and made the rounds to pick up a few things....needless to say, we ended buying a few more shirts for Tom...like he needed some more!
We made it to the historic Engle Field to find that the team was going to have a game between themselves. The coached split up the guys and as one team took to the field, Tom was starting in left field. First batter up slammed a long one in left and Tom caught it for the first out. The inning ended quickly and it wasn't until the 3rd when Tom got up to bat. He fouled 2 off and then ended up getting walked. Made it to 3rd base before the inning ended. Not much else happend in the game. Tom hammered a shot to the 2nd baseman and was out and then later was walked again.
We headed back to eat and change for the Michael W. Smith concert around 4. The concert was good and was sponsored by Compassion International. I knew the guy that introduced Michael and was able to see him during intermission. He use to be the Compassion representative for Eli, an artist that I had produced. It was good to see him and see what Compassion was doing with Michael. Check out this ministry...it really is a worthy one!
Tom joined us at the concert and it was nice to have him hanging out with us. He really seemed to enjoy the concert. Afterwards we talked about the day and he let us know how much he has enjoyed being at Temple. He really likes it...I just hope the coach calls us to let us know that they want him. I think it would be hard on Tom if they passed on him. He really felt like the team liked him. They really made him feel at home. He loved going to the classes and just hanging out with everyone. We pray and hope the Lord leads him to the right place. Monday he goes to Trevecca University in Nashville for the day...no baseball, just checking out the school. He meets and works out with the coaches next month. Who knows where he'll go. I just hope he finds the right place.
Head back to Nashville tomorrow morning! We have a double header tomorrow so I hope we get enough rest and travel is not too bad.
