Halloween

I really don't like this day. Never did..even when I was a kid. There has always been something in my spirit that says this is a complete slap in the face of God when we join in on the festivities. Not that I condemn anyone for doing it...'cause I get it. I know it's turned into a reason for kids to have a party and eat candy. But I also know that many cherish this day for other reasons and I cringe at knowing why they do.

Having a business in a public shopping mall and a business directed mainly to kids...I get the priviledge of spending a ton of money on candy and passing it out to every kid (and adult!) that walks through the mall. You see...to make it safe these days, parents are bringing their kids to public malls instead of going door to door in their neigborhood. I guess because they can hit a ton of businesses in a very short time and the kids walk away with a huge stash! Plus...I'm sure they feel a little safer since they don't have to walk the streets in the dark.

So this morning I have to make a run to buy a ton of candy...and tonight I'm going to throw in a flyer in all those bags and hope that a few come back to our store and purchase something so I can pay for all that candy! Last year I bought about sixty dollars worth of sugar and ran out about halfway through the evening and had to make a run to get more. Not doing that again...when I run out, I run out. But I'll still give them a flyer!

So there you have it. I'm caving in and paricipating in a shameless act of marketing. But I refuse to wear a costume! Hope it works...

nope! Not even a cap. I look pretty bad in one. Even when I was coaching the fall ball team I didn't wear a cap! Just got home...we had over 500 kids show up. We'll see if any of them come back.

I sure hope they do come back. I think putting flyers in with the candy was a really good idea and you just never know when that will work with the kids or the parents...cheers, john
