Nashville Sounds loses to Sacramento River Cats

The River Cats were hitting bombs last night. Four to be exact. I left the game in the bottom of the eighth when the score was 11 to 5. I turned on my radio and by the time I got home it was the bottom of the 9th and the Sounds were making some noise. Four runs in the inning...just not enough to win the game.

I decided to go to the game because I thought a few of my baseball pals were being honored. I understood that former MLB players (like my friend Reggie Whittemore of Nashville RBI) who live in Nashville were invited to the game to be recognized. They were. Well, a few of them. Sometime during the game they announced who was there. That was it. I spent 30 bucks to hear that...and our former trainer, Keith Brown, a retired Sounds guy that still holds quite a few pitching records, wasn't even mentioned, nor did I hear Reggie's name! And he was there! I guess I should have called the Sounds office before I spent my time and money to go.

You all know I have little love for the new owners/management of the Sounds. I miss the old days when people actually showed up to the games. Not just the security and employees. (Check out that picture) I miss having the concession stands open all over the stadium. Last night there were no burgers...no nachos....and the dog I bought had obvioulsy been waiting for me for awhile. I miss the Blackstone Brewery being there! At least there was always a good dark beer to sip on. They now have Yazoo Brewery and of course they decide to sell their pale ale and summer brew...brilliant marketing. "Let's sell our versions of Bud and Miller Light!" I miss standing in a certain corner having a smoke while reading all the banners of local sponsors lined up around the stadium stands. I know...I know...things change.

So here's the best line I heard all night. Travis Buck of the River Cats gets up to the plate and a dad tells his kid..."I think this guy plays in the major leagues!" Now you know why the kids don't come. They think these guys aren't pros.
