It's not just a game...

When our son came to us he was just about ready to turn six years old. It was spring and of course baseball season was upon us. The first day I got out my old baseball gloves and started playing catch with him, I told him about the man who changed the hearts of the world, a man who understood that baseball was not just a game...the great Jackie Robinson.

Ever since that day, Tom has written every report in school that was a "pick your own subject" on the great Jackie Robinson. He has books, magazine articles, and as you see in the picture, a wall in his room dedicated to Jackie and the Los Angeles Dodgers. Ever since he started playing competitive ball, he has proudly worn the number 42.

Yesterday, we had a family night in front of the TV for the "Jackie Robinson Day" game. The powerful stories and information that came from Rachel Robinson, Hank Aaron, Don Newcombe, Frank Robinson, and others, kept us all quiet and humbled by all that Jackie had accomplished. This man changed the landscape of America.

What a great day to be with our son and see that he now has a chance in this life to do anything he desires to do...because one man knew that "It's not just a game..."

"A life is not important,
except in the impact
it has on others' lives."

-- Jackie Robinson
