Another thing I do each morning like most of you do, is check my email, listen to the news, and indulge in a daily dose of blogs I follow. Outside of friends blogs, I have a list of Theology scholars that I read. I do this because these folks are the ones that are molding the church by their work. It helps me to understand how and why the church has changed so drastically from the early days of the Christian church.
So who cares what I read?! Probably not many care...but there was a debate held recently with some theologians at a major seminary. The question they were debating was: "Is Christian Scholarship Accountable to the Poor?"
I know what came to my mind as soon as I read the question...but what comes to yours? How would you answer that question? I care what you think!

What does it mean if I don't understand the question?
Steve...sadly, it means what it's asking of the "scholars"! Should they, being scholars and their work is to be scholarly(sp?) I guess, have to deal with, or be accountable to the poor? This is a serious question they are asking themselves.
Hi Mark,
I'm with Steve. Even after reading your comment I still don't understand the question! Maybe some of the ETSU professors will explain the question and give their answers in simple terms so that I can understand.
Dennis
Dennis.Steve - After reading the scholars argument...it is the simple question of "Should you (scholars-teachers of the Word of God) be accountable to taking care of the poor?"
Basically the arguments were about "Who are the poor? - What does poor mean?"
I guess for me, it was such an odd question to ask/discuss/debate that I just couldn't believe they were taking the time to actually discuss an issue like this!
For me the simple answer without needing to debate because of the traditional Christian belief would be..."Of course! We are all responsible/accountable to God and man...which OBVIOUSLY would include the POOR!
For some to try and excuse themselves to not be accountable to the "poor" because of their "calling to study and teach" just seemed a bit odd...
I'm with y'all. It seems a stupid question. These "scholars" are accountable to the poor if either (or both) of the following are true: 1) the scholars are Christian; 2) the scholars are human. That sounds good to me, but I know in my heart that I'm not good at it. It's much easier to discuss than to do. For some reason I'm reminded of the debate between Catholic sects in THE MISSION: "Did Christ, or did he not, own the clothes he wore?" Let the poor, hungry and naked hold on a bit while we talk about this.
You nailed it Cody...A stupid question.
